FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

General:

  1. How often do ducts need cleaning?

There is no definitive answer to this question, although a broad consensus is once every three years for typical residential systems. However, for greater peace of mind some customers prefer their systems to be cleaned yearly.

A simple visual inspection can be used to determine if a system is "dirty" if you have any doubts that your system requires attention.
  2. How are ducts cleaned?

Two important elements are required during the duct cleaning process.
    1. Extraction. A powerful negative air machine is connected to the duct system to extract contaminants from ductwork as they are dislodged during cleaning. It is located outside the home.
    2. Agitation. Brushing combined with high pressure air is used to dislodge dust, lint, animal and human hair, skin flakes, moulds and many contaminants.

Beware of competitors using only commercial floor vacuum cleaners to partially clean duct systems. Duct cleaning requires specialised equipment. Floor vacuum cleaners alone are not appropriate for suitably cleaning duct systems.

Airfix's duct cleaning equipment has been designed and tested to engineered specifications by Australians to be most suitable for Australian systems. It is unique for use in this field.
  3. Why is it necessary to clean the fan motor in the heater with every clean?

A build up of dust on the fan motor during normal operation can contribute to overheating and electrical short circuit, which is one potential fire hazard in the central unit. Airfix cleans dust from the motor with every clean. Refer to our full list below of comprehensive duct cleaning service.
  4. How often is it necessary to service a ducted gas heater?

The Office of Gas Safety and the Plumbing Industry Commission recommend at least every two years. However, potential hazards such as spiders or ants nesting in unit burners during summer can contribute to explosive conditions in the ducted heater and other malfunctions. Therefore, Airfix recommends annual service for greater peace of mind.
  5. Is it necessary for gas heater maintenance to be carried out by a licensed gas fitter?

Yes. All Airfix tradesmen are suitably qualified.
